Future Energy Oakville (FEO) Interim Executive Director Wayne Steffler and FEO Director Karena de Souza recently attended the unveiling of the solar charging canopy at Audi Oakville.
The EV charging station generates its own energy using bi-facial solar panels that capture light reflecting off cars under the canopy that would normally be wasted. Built with locally sourced materials, the first-ever Solar Canopy Electric Vehicle Charging Station is one of the many steps Audi is taking to reach our goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030.
“As we encourage more drivers towards battery-powered vehicles, it helps that we pull energy from the sun, instead of from the grid,” said Ms de Souza. “This project has ingenuity written all over it, from conception to deployment.”
